IT STARTS DAY 1

You Were Never Meant to Fight Alone

Day1Week1 provides immediate, free, and lasting mental health support for

first responders and veterans so no one is left behind in service or healing.

WHY WE EXIST

Because Those Who Serve Shouldn’t Suffer in Silence

Those who protect our communities and those who have already served are taking their own lives at alarming rates. In 2022, the nation lost 6,407 veterans to suicide, nearly twice the rate of non-veteran adults. Independent nonprofit groups and research institutions have also recorded hundreds of first responder suicides each year.

Between 2016 and 2022, First H.E.L.P. and CNA documented 1,287 deaths among law enforcement and corrections officers, with the numbers continuing to rise.

Because federal data on first responder suicides remains incomplete, these nonprofit counts likely capture only part of the crisis. Both veterans and first responders need stronger prevention efforts, better national tracking, and ongoing access to quality mental health care.

Real People. Real Healing

After being injured on duty, William’s life took an unexpected turn. The physical pain led to a battle with addiction, and although he began talk therapy, the mounting copays and deductibles made it impossible to keep up.

That’s when Day1Week1 stepped in — clearing his outstanding balance and giving him a chance to start fresh.

“It’s so amazing, I can finally stop thinking about how I’m going to pay that bill every night before I try to sleep.”

Today, William continues therapy without financial stress, rebuilding both his health and hope.

After years of serving others, Parker faced her own emergency. Severe glaucoma in both eyes threatened her ability to drive — and her independence. The surgery was scheduled, but the deductible costs were more than she could afford.

When she reached out to Day1Week1, the board of directors held an emergency meeting and approved her deductible payment within 24 hours.

“I’m so grateful they responded so quickly, I don’t know what I would have done without them.”

The surgery was successful, and Parker continues to enjoy her retirement — still serving as an advocate for responder health and support.
